HOMETOWN hero, Dave Reynolds, is enjoying a new lease of life back at Malvern Town, writes Andy Poole.

The talented forward started the current campaign with Evesham United in the Southern League, before opting for a return to The Hillsiders despite plenty of interest from elsewhere.

“It’s great to be back and part of the progression that the club is making,” he said.

“There are so many great people in and around the club that are always striving to make it a positive place to be.

“I seem to have taken on a new role since coming back, playing a bit deeper and helping to create chances as well as looking to score goals myself.

“We’ve been playing some good stuff and the rise in attendances to go alongside it is brilliant. Hopefully it will continue because as a player it always motivates you more when you have such fantastic support.

“Everything is in place for the club to climb the pyramid, but our focus is on just taking it one game at a time. Our priority this season is to get promotion and as players we want to do it as champions.”

Reynolds is another member of the squad who has given a big thumbs up to the new playing surface here at the HDANYWHERE Community Stadium.

“I like the new surface,” he added. “As a creative player it allows you to play faster and take risks because you’re not worrying about the conditions.

“We’ve had some entertaining games on it so far and it’s another big game coming up at the weekend against Thornbury Town.

“I want to win every game I play, and Saturday will be no different. As long as we give our all and out-work them, our quality will shine through and then I only see a positive result.”

So as we start 2020, what are Reynolds’ footballing aims for the year ahead?

“The main target is promotion, but we want to win the league,” he said without hesitation.

“On a personal note, I’m a goalscorer; I expect to score in every game but from now until the end of the season I’ll be doing what I can to make sure the team wins.”

The Hillsiders host second-placed Thornbury Town on Saturday at 3pm.
