ASSISTANT manager Chris Cornes was unable to explain why Worcester Raiders’ home clash with Wolverhampton Sporting Community had been postponed.

Raiders were scheduled to play at Nunnery Wood Sports Complex on Saturday only for the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division match to be called off.

The city side have yet to kick a ball on the Spetchley Road pitch since being given permission to play there by the league last month with their previous home match against Wem Town called off due to wet weather.

Cornes said it was “frustrating” but said he was not in a position to comment further.

“Tomorrow's game is off,” Cornes said.

“It’s for the chairman (Kev Jenkins) to say (why) and he’s away this week. We have tired our best to get games on but it's been a little bit out of our hands."

With no match this weekend, Cornes was pleased his players got some minutes under their belts when they faced Raiders Reserves in a friendly in midweek.

“We managed to get a 75-minute game in which was beneficial for us and the reserves because they have had a few games called off due to the weather conditions as well,” Cornes said.

“I was also able to look at the reserves and see how far they had come since the start of the season.”

Raiders are next scheduled to play at Nunnery Wood next Saturday when they host Smethwick Rangers.
