PERSHORE teenager Barnie Brotherton topped a tight leaderboard in the Dodson and Horrell National Amateur Second Round at Eland Lodge Equestrian.
Competitors braved the weather at the centre in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, in trying to qualify for the nationals at Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, from November 12 until 17.
In the 1.05m contest Brotherton, 16, piloted Naomi Brotherton’s Cash Casino, a 10-year-old Danish bred gelding who he has competed with over the last 12 months.
They won the showjumping in 34.06 seconds ahead of Mark Thompson in second and third place with Silvarno and Hunky Dory III respectively.
Just 0.60 seconds separated the top three.
