A VISITING duo won Broadway Golf Club’s Alex Jeffrey Salver.

The mixed open foursomes medal went to Julie and Steve Thomas from Woodlake Park, Pontypool, with 72 nett.

Home players Bill and Angela Sollis were second on 73 with Broadway’s Roger and Barb Buggin third on 75.5.

The Sue Carter Quaich for the day’s best stableford score went to Broadway’s Kevin Carroll and The Vale’s Sue Jones with 38 points.

Keith Taylor and Maureen Wheeler were second on 35 with Simon and Deirdre Burton from Newmarket third on countback.

Twenty-eight ladies competed in a stableford with Louise Folkes scoring 44 points to win.

Heading up Division One with 36 was Elaine Hickin ahead of Frances Friend on 35 and Liz Smith on 33.

Valerie Steven claimed Division Two on 40 with Angela Sollis and Sonia Ward second and third respectively after scoring 39.

The juniors’ club championships was held over 36 holes with the section’s captain Scott Davis totalling 150 gross to secure the title for the third year running.

Second was Sonny Nangle with 161 and Adam Sutton finished third with 165 while Curtis Coane earned the best nett trophy with 144.

The men’s medal saw Paul Whelan win Division One with 68 from Jim Titley on countback while Chris Smith was third on 69.

Philip Cloke scored 71 to top Division Two with Ted Fila second on 72 on countback from Mark Howard.

Mike Humpston got the lowest gross of 73.

Meanwhile, 52 The Vale seniors played a white tee medal with Division Two victor David Viner (16 handicap) winning overall on 70.

Brian Brumhead (12) topped Division One on 74 with Duilo Perla (10) second on countback from Mick Lewis (13) with both on 74.

Chris Filus (17) 72, Richard Browning (17) 73 and Arthur Collingwood (16) followed on 75. Division Three went to Andy Jinks (24) with 76 in front of Mike Spittle (24) on 79 and Ronnie McFarlane (25) and Geoff Maynard (22) on 80.

There were twos from Peter Beech, Roger Hawes, Lewis and Perla while Ed Mountney was nearest the pin on the fifth.

Two inter-club matches at Stratford Park and Broadway ended in 4.5-1.5 losses.
