LEE Chilton and Matt Dodd fired Evesham United to a 2-0 victory over Winchester City in Southern League Division One South but keeper Lochie Robertson was the hero.

The work experience stopper from Bristol City pulled off two tidy saves in the opening 10 minutes at the Jubilee Stadium with City hitting the post and bar in the first half.

Having survived, Chilton nodded in at the far post from an Aaron Roberts cross and Dodd tucked in from close range following tidy approach play from substitute Adam Page and Jordon Sangha.

Winchester's unbeaten record was ended but they had started brightly with Simba Mlambo causing problems as Robertson and the woodwork saved the Robins.

Oliver Griggs' 30-yard strike hit the bar and headed downwards at pace with the officials ruling the ball not to have crossed the line.

Chilton had a rare first-half effort for Evesham which was easily saved by keeper Ryan Pryce.

The second half was in complete contrast to the first and Kai Tonge's header from a corner went just over.

The deadlock was broken on 52 minutes as Dodd found Roberts whose cross was headed in by Chilton from close range at the far post.

Robertson saved from Oliver Balmer to keep the lead intact and the Robins added a second goal on 57 minutes.

Dodd, unmarked in a crowded box, threaded a shot into the back of the net for his first Evesham league goal.

Robertson pulled off another fine save from Mlambo to ensure an unlikely clean sheet.

The Robins are unbeaten in the last four league games.

After Evesham's FA Cup exit, they are now without a game until Saturday, September 28, at Melksham Town.
