BROADWAY Golf Club hosted their men’s open over 36 holes with 88 competitors from 22 golf clubs.

After a morning round of 65 nett, 15-year-old Adam Sutton completed a score of 140 to take the title.

Euan Dunbar, of Vale Royal Abbey in Cheshire, returned 141 ahead of home player Bobby Webb who edged out Ben Metrovich from The Vale on countback with both on 142.

Kate Bellamy and Helen Pearcy won the ladies’ Rover Trophy with 74.5 nett in front of Molly King-Smith and Pat Righton on 75.5, Bev Howard and Jan Titley on 76 and Vicky Watkins and Linda Carruthers on 77.

Bellamy and Pearcy will be able to represent Broadway in the National Daily Mail Foursomes later in the year.

The Granny Cup over 16 holes was claimed by Elaine Hickin with 39 points ahead of Louise Folkes on 35, Angela Sollis on 32 and Veronica Rudd on 29.

The Captain’s Prize for juniors went to Will Jones for the third time with 42 points in front of Sonny Nangle on 41, Scott Davis on 38 and Jackson Wojahn-Parker on 34.

Meanwhile, 66 The Vale seniors played a four-ball better-ball competition.

Mike Hird and Brian Brumhead won with 46 points from Chris Filus and Peter Morris on 45.

Mike Roberts and Bob Evans were third with 43 on countback from Brian Bunn and Martin Holland.

Nearest the pin were David Webb on the fifth and Will Reading on the 14th.

The Vale seniors won at home to Broadway and halved at Hagley.
