NIGEL Bird claimed a close Broadway Men's Centenary Trophy on countback as three golfers scored 70 nett.

Seventy-four competed with Bird edging Jamie Thomas into second and Will Icke in third while David Goodwin was fourth on 71.

The annual ladies' invitation day involved 35 home players and guests from 20 clubs in a better-ball contest.

Broadway’s Isobella Lates and Karen Stokes from Minchinhampton won with 43 points ahead of Esther Pettitt and Elaine Ostroumoff from Redditch on 42 and Judith Noyce and Joy Trinder from Stratford on 41.

Fourth with 41 on countback were Kate Bellamy and Heather Cass from Leominster.

Nearest the pin was Ruth Masters from Evesham on the fifth with playing partner Lin Andrew closest in two on the 11th.

Ladies' captain Irene Hawkes' charity fund for Campden Home Nursing grew by £277 through a raffle.

Adam Sutton won Broadway juniors' Roy Cumper Cup for the best individual stableford score.

Sutton, who has only been back at the club for a few weeks, scored 40 points ahead of Ryan Wright on 39.

Joe Golding took third from Kyle Wright on countback with both on 36.

Eighty-six Broadway men contested the Tilbrook Cup over a stroke-play format.

Dereck Keenan won with 65 nett from Richard Preen on 66 and a lowest gross of 71.

Rob Lord and Chris Smith were third and fourth on countback with both on 67.

Meanwhile, Martin Williams claimed the Evesham seniors' Jubilee Cup medal contest on countback from Alan Askew with both on 69 nett.

Ian Facer was third on 70 and Dave Kewley fourth on 72 with the competition held on the white course among 25 players.

The trophy was presented by vice-captain Les Bond.
