Before the lunchtime cut after 18 holes of strokeplay scoring John Flintham led the field with a handicap-defying 63 nett.

He was followed by Mike Filleul with 67.

High temperatures and slick greens meant concentration was key in the afternoon.

Despite 71 from Steve Cantrill and 72 from Norman Whatmore, nobody could catch Flintham whose 73 and a total of 136 saw him return with the Championship Trophy.

The non-qualifiers played for the Scrubbers Cup with Rob Claude reversing his morning form to win with 39 points.
