HOTSHOT Demetri Brown is expected to be “back in the firing line” for Worcester City’s FA Cup preliminary round match at Heather St John’s on Saturday (12.30pm).

The striker was forced off 31 minutes into City’s 4-0 Midland League Premier Division defeat at Long Eaton United on Tuesday night.

But manager Ashley Vincent eased fears over Brown’s hamstring problem and emphasised the importance of the ex-Tividale frontman to his side.

“He was a little bit fatigued and I think the way we play contributed to that with our aggressive, flat-out football,” Vincent said.

“He did the sensible thing in coming off. He was very tired and knew that if he stayed on much longer he was going to end up with a pull.

“We will check on him today and if he’s ready to go he will be back into the firing line because he is a very valuable player to us.

“Due to the aggressive way we play Demetri being up top helps us a lot.”

Vincent expects to be without goalkeeper Dan Jezeph for “another couple of games” as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

But Vincent is hopeful of being boosted by the return of midfielder Kurtis Mewies who has been struggling with a tight calf.

“We think he is pretty much there now but we will check on him,” Vincent added.

“Kurtis gives us a different dynamic.

“On top of what he offers in the dressing room he is a very unique player and the boys look up to him so we would be happy to have him back.”
