TWO key Worcester Warriors players are on course to return from injury ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Gloucester at Sixways (3pm).

Captain Gerrit-Jan van Velze (arm) and lock Michael Fatialofa (back) have been in full training this week as they look to overcome their respective injuries in time for the Gallagher Premiership clash.

Number eight van Velze has not featured for Warriors since damaging his forearm in the defeat at Harlequins in mid-February.

“GJ is close to returning,” said director of rugby Alan Solomons.

“He is taking full part in practice so that’s a positive.

“Everything seems fine with the hand.

“He has trained really hard as all the lads who have had injuries.

“I think the guys are really happy to get back playing as Johan (Pretorious, head of performance) has made it quite unpleasant for them when they are recovering!”

Fatialofa has made 10 appearances since making his debut in mid-December but suffered an injury in the European Challenge Cup quarter-final loss to Quins last month.

“Michael is back in full training so hopefully he will be available for selection,” Solomons said.

However Solomons looks set to stick with largely the same side that beat Sale Sharks 39-17 in the last round of fixtures.

Asked whether he had some selection headaches, Solomons said: “Yes and that’s good but you must remember that the team that played against Sale did a very good job. You have got to take cognises of that.”
