EVESHAM picked up their first Worcestershire Cricket League Premier Division win of the season in a low-scoring contest.

After a heavy defeat on the opening day to Vale rivals Pershore, Evesham saw off a fellow former Birmingham League side in Old Hill by 10 runs.

If not for skipper Muhammad Saqib (70), Khizar Khan (28) and 35 extras, the hosts would have been looking at a much lower total than 163 all out.

Naqaash Tahir tore through the batting with 7-39 and Zahid Kafiat took 3-30 as Evesham were dismissed inside 48 overs.

Despite Navdeep Poonia's 74, Old Hill also struggled to establish partnerships with regular wickets crashing in their 153 all out.

Evesham secured a 24-point victory in 47 overs with Muhammad Saqib claiming 5-30 and Adnan Sagheer 3-38.

Pershore failed to follow up their derby success with a five-wicket defeat at another club to fall from the Birmingham League in Astwood Bank.

They were bowled out for 118 in 44.2 overs with Chris Miles (41) top scoring but most of his team-mates floundering.

With new skipper Liam Ridings returning, Pershore did not have much of a total to defend and Bank won in 30 overs with 120-5.

Captain Tom Underhill starred with 61 while William Palmer gave the visitors some hope with 2-21.

Division One favourites Hagley won by six wickets at Bredon who were bowled out for 160 in 44.3 overs.

Opener Charlie McVicker scored 41 and Oliver Cox 35 while Daniel Giles took 4-38.

Hagley won inside 38 overs with 163-4 thanks to wicketkeeper Lee Nightingale's 67 and 27 from Giles before Michael Stead (39 not out) and Christian Levitt (10no) saw them home.

Will Metcalfe bowled well for 3-32 from 9.2 overs.
