WORCESTER Raiders could lose the three points gained at Bustleholme on Tuesday after the match was provisionally listed as abandoned.

Worcestershire FA confirmed that the match referee, listed as Pete Durnall, deemed the West Midlands (Regional) League (WMRL) Division One match had not been completed in a report filed this week.

It followed a brawl involving players and staff from both sides and members of the crowd which started during the second minute of added time.

All disciplinary matters related to the report get presided over by the county FA of clubs involved – Worcestershire in the case of Raiders and Birmingham in the case of Bustleholme.

The WMRL confirmed the report contained matters for the respective FAs to look at which must be adjudicated on before the league can decide on sanctions over the abandonment.

When the match came to a premature halt, the referee only blew once rather than the three blasts usually associated with the end of the game.

Initially, the final score of 3-1 to Raiders was published on the WMRL’s Full-Time FA website but it has since been replaced with the points chalked off the league standings.

A WMRL spokesperson confirmed that the result could still be allowed to stand but the league’s standard code of rules indicates if both clubs get found to have caused the abandonment that “neither team will be awarded any points for that competition match and it shall not be replayed”.

Rule 20 E (v) reads: “The management committee shall review all competition matches abandoned in cases where it is consequent upon the conduct of either or both teams.

“Where it is to the advantage of the competition and does no injustice to either club, the management committee shall be empowered to order the score at the time of the abandonment to stand.

“In all cases where the management committee are satisfied that a competition match was abandoned owing to the conduct of one team or its club member(s) they shall be empowered to award the points for the competition match to the opponent.

“In cases where a competition match has been abandoned owing to the conduct of both teams or their club member(s), the management committee shall rule that neither team will be awarded any points for that competition match and it shall not be replayed.

“No fine(s) can be applied by the management committee for an abandoned competition match.”

Losing the points would be a bitter blow after Raiders had established a five-point cushion over Darlaston Town (1874) at the summit.

Meanwhile, Raiders announced on social media that fans planning to attend Saturday’s league match at Gornal Athletic (3pm) must register before travelling.

A statement posted on the club’s Twitter account read: “If any of our supporters are looking to attend our away game (at) Gornal Athletic we need you to register with us via direct message please, as with the events and accusations regarding our club recently we are putting a system in place to ensure this does not happen again.”

Raiders chairman Kevin Jenkins was unavailable for comment.
