TEN girls from King’s St Alban’s, Worcester, became the south-west netball champions.

They saw off 20 other teams in the Under 11 IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) District Tournament to reach Thursday's national final.

The girls went unbeaten through the group stage and quarter-finals in the regional competition at Millfield School, Somerset.

King's were two goals down in the semis with just 40 seconds remaining but equalised and won 8-7 in golden goal time.

They then won the final 4-2 to complete a first for the school.

Alex Hind, head of girls’ games at King’s St Alban’s, said: “The tournament was a chance to put ourselves up against lots of ambitious and talented school teams.

"The girls were impressive and showed remarkable optimism, resilience and togetherness.

"Their momentum and team spirit won the battle against tired muscles. I am so very proud.”
