WORCESTER Warriors pair Jack Singleton and Ben Te’o have been included in England’s 35-man squad to begin preparations for the opening Guinness Six Nations match against Ireland in Dublin on February 2.

Hooker Singleton is one of four uncapped players in the squad for a training camp in Portugal although this is not his first involvement with England at senior level having already toured South Africa and Argentina.

Singleton, a World Rugby Under-20 Championship winner three years ago, is one of three hookers in the squad along with Saracens’ Jamie George and Exeter Chiefs’ Luke Cowan-Dickie.

Centre Te’o has already played for England 16 times, most recently against Australia at Twickenham in the Quilter Internationals in November.

The British and Irish Lions international has played the full 80 minutes in Warriors’ last three matches and marked his first start of the season with a try against Saracens three weeks ago.

But there is no place for tighthead prop Nick Schonert, with Leicester Tigers’ Dan Cole returning, and young blindside flanker Ted Hill who made his England debut in the autumn.

Ollie Thorley (Gloucester), Ben Earl (Saracens) and Dan Robson (Wasps) are the uncapped players selected.

The squad will travel to Portugal on January 23 to begin their preparations. A squad of 25 players will depart for Dublin on January 31.

England head coach Eddie Jones said: “We are very happy with the squad and have a number of players who have come back from long-term injury.

“We are looking forward to getting across to Portugal and having a good ten-day preparation for the Ireland game.

“The first thing when we get together as a squad is to get our cohesion back.

“The players have been playing for their clubs with different styles and different playing philosophies, so it’s about getting them thinking about playing the England way.

“The second thing is to get our togetherness stronger to work as hard as we can to make sure we are well connected on and off the field so Portugal is an important camp for us.

“Ireland is the best side in the world.

“They are a very well coached and drilled side and have particular things they do well in the game. To beat Ireland, we need to compete brutally in all the contest areas of the game.”
