EVESHAM-based speedway ace Richard Lawson hopes to hit the ground running at one of his favourite circuits from last season.

The 32-year-old will again double up in both of Britain's top leagues after being named as the fourth signing for 2019 at Premiership newcomers Ipswich.

Lawson was announced as part of Eastbourne's Championship team before Christmas having been forced into a double change of scenery over the winter with Somerset taking relegation from the top tier and Lakeside dropping out altogether.

Both of his teams will be new to their respective divisions but the experienced campaigner has high hopes for his 12th season on the circuit – particularly at Ipswich which proved a happy hunting ground last term.

“In the past couple of years I have got to grips with Foxhall (Ipswich) and had some really good scores there,” said Lawson.

“Early on in my career it wasn’t one of my favourite tracks but for whatever reason I have got dialled in the past couple of seasons and its one of the tracks I look forward to going to.

“The move happened pretty quickly when I was made aware that Ipswich were going up and we got in contact straight away.

“Chris (Louis, Ipswich promoter) was keen to have me. I have guested there a couple of times, I have always felt at home with the team and it has been a good atmosphere there. It’s something I am looking forward to.”
