EVESHAM United bid for a sixth win in the last eight games when promotion rivals Melksham Town visit the Jubilee Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

The Robins boosted their play-off hopes with a 2-1 Boxing Day home victory over Cinderford Town.

Kye Simpson and Joe Turley scored early goals to lead third-placed Evesham into the clash against the Wiltshire team who are only one position and one point below them with three games in hand.

Evesham showed intent early on and a fine move put them ahead in the sixth minute.

Nick Hancock and Kane Simpson combined for Kye Simpson to place his brother's cross past keeper Alex Harris.

The Robins increased their advantage just two minutes later when confusion in Town’s defence allowed Joe Turley to ghost past and score his fourth Evesham goal of the season.

The 236-strong crowd had to wait until the 23rd minute for more meaningful action when Cory Simpson's shot was cleared off the line.

Evesham keeper Andy Hannah saved from Richard Greaves before the visitors' Dan McDonald shot over from 12 yards.

Hannah had to make a few more saves to retain the two-goal advantage going into half-time.

Evesham came out stronger in the second period and on 62 minutes Harris tipped away a long-range Cory Simpson effort.

Cinderford attacked more later on without any punch in the final third.

Evesham centre-backs Shayne Anson and Liam Harding formed a formidable back four with Linden Dovey and Will Tunnicliff.

But the Robins again conceded a late goal when in the second minute of injury-time their former defender Andy Lewis popped up to make it 2-1.

Evesham: Hannah, Dovey, Tunnicliff, Turley, Anson, Harding, Thomas, Hancock, Kane Simpson, Kye Simpson (Davidge 61), C Simpson (Williams 83). Subs not used: Brown, Wellon, Davies.
