BROADWAY men have been crowned North Gloucestershire Foursomes League Division Two champions.
The squad, with a blend of youth and experience and boasting handicaps of on average six or below, had been promoted after winning Division Three in 2017.
Broadway lost 3½-2½ at relegated Cleeve Cloud and halved at home to Lilley Brook.
But from being bottom of the table they inflicted Gloucester's first home defeat for five years with a 3½-2½ triumph.
Broadway won 5-1 at Cotswold Edge and beat Painswick 5½-½ at home.
They won their final matches, including three at home, to top the table.
Broadway ladies began their winter league challenge with a four-ball better-ball match over 16 holes with 26 competitors in mild October conditions.
Julia Fortescue and Barbara Crew won with 34 points from Brenda Corfield and Fran Andrews on 33 and Lin Everitt and Debbie Donoghue on 32 with Judith Noyce and Camilla Haines fourth on countback.
There was more of a chill for the men's winter league first round which was also a four-ball better-ball format.
Keith Taylor and Dave Morris won with 45 points from Lee Jones and Stephen Oliver on 44.
They edged out Steve Webb and Gary Barnett in third and Chris Davis and David Goodwin in fourth on countback.
