EVESHAM colts continued their winning start to the season with an excellent performance at Shrewsbury to leave them top of the league table.

Having beaten Aston Old Edwardians the previous week, the colts won 34-12 in Shropshire guided by hard-working man of the match Ben Holland.

Evesham started well by securing possession from kick-off and moving the ball well to allow Patrick Atkins to score in the corner.

Will Cutler was unlucky with the conversion from the touch-line but made no mistake with his second attempt following a try by Jake Smith.

Harrison Walker completed the scoring in the first half by going round his man after accurate handling by the backs.

Shrewsbury rallied and despite heroic defence finally broke through to turn round 17-5.

Evesham faced a strong wind but continued to dominate open play and set-pieces.

Walker scored his second try in the corner and further accurate handling by the backs led by Euey Breach allowed Cutler to glide in under the posts leaving himself a straightforward conversion.

Kieran Downey completed Evesham's scoring by bulldozing through the Shrewsbury defence.

Shrewsbury never gave up and completed the scoring.

Meanwhile, the men's first XV have started the Midlands Two West (South) season with two victories.

They won 32-14 at Rugby St Andrews before beating Silhillians 15-10 at home.

Evesham visit Barkers Butts on Saturday.
