AMY Stanton from Broadway BC is the new women’s national junior singles bowls champion.

She took the crown when she defeated Megan Hunt of Middlesex 21-7 in the National Championships at Leamington.

Three victories carried Stanton into the quarter-finals where she beat J Eldridge comfortably by 21-5 to book her semi-final place against K Smith from Leicestershire. This was a closer game but Stanton woncame out on top by 21-14.

Stanton is going to be busy at Leamington over the next two weeks as she iswill be involved in the Ladies Champion of Champions pairs, triples and fours competitions.

Andrew Walters has also qualified for the National Championships in the Champion of Champions after he won the county title at Chester Road BC.

He also qualified for the pairs with Steve Aldren when they came runners-up to Grant Burgess and Dave Summers and then the triples with Steve Aldren and Roger Ashby after they won the county title against Andy Millward, Alan Johnson and Wayne White.
