MOTORBIKERS and villagers helped to make an bike enthusiast's 83rd birthday a special one.

More than 250 bikers visited former motorbike dealer Brian Griffiths at his Peterchurch home on Sunday.

Groups of riders arrived in the village throughout the morning from as far afield at Tamworth in the Midlands.

Villagers also joined in the occasion by baking 20 cakes which helped to raise more than £500 for Parkinson's disease and dementia charities.

"It was an incredible day and something for dad to look back on," said his son Carl Griffiths.

"Some of the bikers my father hadn't seen for over 30 years. My dad managed to sit on a Triumph and rev the engine. He was also taken around the village on a trike motorbike.

"He was waving to passers-by like the Queen and so many people wished him well. I was very surprised what a difference the day made to my dad, it gave him a lift and more physical strength.

"It was a really special day to celebrate his life while he was able to enjoy it."
