A FAMILY who were gutted to miss out on the Glastonbury experience this year decided to recreate the festival in their back garden.

And live acts even played at the 'Glasthomebury' event at the Worcester Road, Droitwich, home of Fiona Rees, 50, husband Matt, 43, and 11-year-old son Dylan.

Mrs Rees said it started out as one of her crazy ideas to build a bar, that quickly snowballed into having their own festival complete with a Pyramid Stage and projector, bar, camping area and even a toilet tent.

The Rees family have attended five of the last six festivals, and had been set to attend the Worthy Farm event last weekend, which would have been celebrating its 50th year.

Mrs Rees said: “Our family are music lovers, even my son is a regular festival goer.

"Glastonbury is just magical. We were gutted we couldn't go this year, so we decided to do this a bit tongue in cheek. I put some pictures up (on Glastonbury chat groups), and it just went crazy."

Among the local acts to play the family's festival on their pyramid stage were Dan Greenaway, Charlie Harrison and Claire Portman, with the family live streaming the performances so others could watch.

"They all said that it was just fantastic to be able to perform to a live crowd again," Mrs Rees said.

"As performers it is what they were born to do, and have not being able to do it during lockdown."

Mrs Rees’s father, Colin Stent is a carpenter who helped build the stage, and enjoyed the fruits of his labour as the 67-year-old was able to enjoy his first festival.

"He really enjoyed it, we all did, it was an excellent weekend."

Mrs Rees added that they also usually attend the family music festival Camper Calling at Ragley Hall, and were now planning a similar recreation for the August Bank Holiday.
