BROMSGROVE has recorded its fewest weekly coronavirus deaths – two – in almost three months as new figures reveal which parts of the district were hardest hit at the height of the pandemic.

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) data released each week shows just two Bromsgrove people died with Covid-19 in the week ending June 12, the lowest tally since the week ending March 20.

There had been five coronavirus deaths in the district in each of the previous two weeks as fatalities continued to fall from a pandemic-high weekly figure of 26 in mid-April.

Both of the deaths in the most recent week on record occurred in care homes and they have taken the district’s overall Covid-19 death toll up to 132 – which remains the highest in Worcestershire.

Overall, though, like the rest of the country, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the district is falling – this is the fifth consecutive week where deaths were contained to single figures.

It is also the first week since the pandemic began that not a single person from Bromsgrove has died in hospital with coronavirus.

New figures broken down by postcodes, meanwhile, have shown that the Bromsgrove Central and Sanders Park area was the part of Bromsgrove hardest-hit at the peak of the pandemic.

There were 31 coronavirus-related deaths in that area during March, April and May – making up almost a quarter of the Covid-19 deaths suffered across Bromsgrove.

That figure of 31 was more than twice as many as that suffered by the second-highest area on the list – Rubery West, where 15 deaths with Covid-19 were recorded over the three-month period.
