A KIND-hearted grandson treated residents and staff at a Wordsley care home with ice cream treats as a thank you for the care received by his much-loved grandad.

Matty George, aged 23 from Kingswinford, arranged for Antonio's Ice Cream Parlour to drop by Hillcroft Nursing Home and treat 26 residents with cones and screwballs on June 10.

The kind gesture was a thank you to staff at the home for the care his late grandfather Jeff Clarke received during the end of his life, after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer two months ago.

Stourbridge News:

It was a complete surprise to staff, including to Matty's mum Lisa who is manager of the home on Wordsley high street.

Lisa said: "Matty was so overwhelmed with the way Jeff was treated that he wanted to do something for residents and staff as a thank you. It was a lovely surprise, the residents loved it and were talking about it for days afterwards.

"They had a really special bond, Jeff couldn't have been prouder of Matty. He [Jeff] was a really good bloke. He was the loveliest, kindest, most generous man I ever met."

The surprise was an added treat as the home is in lockdown and residents have not seen their families for three months, so staff have sent photos and videos the day to the residents' loved ones.

Lisa added: "We're really grateful to him, it was a really kind gesture."
