POSTERS have been pinned to trees around a field which are encouraging ‘lazy’ dog owners to pick up their pet’s mess from the floor.

Dean and Beth While, and their eight-year-old daughter Holly, spoke to the Worcester News after discovering a ‘high volume’ of dog mess all over Racefield Meadow in Worcester, which is where they have been taking their daily exercise during the coronavirus lockdown.

However, the family have said they struggle avoiding dog mess and are calling for dog owners to pick up their pet’s mess.

Along with other children who have created posters to deter pet owners from leaving mess on the ground, Holly has designed her own poster which she has pinned on a tree.

Mrs While, aged 45, said: “Someone is equally disgusted as they have put some posters up today. It seems people living in the local area are unhappy about the situation too.”

The family say they have also spotted bags filled with dog poo hung up in trees.

Mrs While added: “There is now a poo bag at the top of a tree. I reckon someone tried to throw it over the hedge and didn’t throw it high enough, so it got stuck.

“It is common to see people hanging poo bags in the tree.

"It takes longer for a plastic bag that has been left on a tree to degrade. When you think about how long it takes for plastic to degrade, it’s bad for the environment and it’s just littering.

“The bin has now been emptied but this hasn't made a difference it would seem to people picking it up.”

Mr While, aged 43, said: “I think as the posters have been made by children it seems more real, so hopefully it will make a difference.”

The family say their one walk a day during lockdown is important for Holly and their two-year-old 'cockerpoo' dog Poppy.

Paul Urmston said: "Pick up your dogs mess or don’t have a dog. Simple."

Denise Lines said: "If you have a dog just clean up after it. And I am seeing bags dog just thrown on the floor. What's that about? Just bin it. If you can’t clean up after your dog then you shouldn’t have one or just let them do it in your own garden. I’m sure you would soon clean it up then."

Marzina Allah-Ditta said: "It's horrible and shocking at the amount of people that do this. I am furious to the extent they do it to and don't care. I was on my way home when my buggy wheels got dog poo on it. I had to clean it on grass before taking it inside and had to wash the wheels."

Hayley Pierce said: "When walking my dog I feel like we're playing dodge the dog crap. It's really not hard to pick up after your dog. If you don't want to pick up dog poo, don't get a dog! Simple."
