THERE are 'no excuses' for youths to congregate at a Rubery skate park that has now been closed due to the coronavirus, say police.

Reports of groups gathering at the park and basketball court in St Chad's Park forced Bromsgrove District Council to temporarily close the facility in line with government advice.

"No excuses now, they are strictly out of bounds," tweeted PCSO White of the Hagley and Rubery Safer Neighbourhood Team.

While the move has met with approval from some, others felt it was unfair on those using the facility to exercise while following social distancing guidelines.

Jez Turner said: "Seems a bit sad for kids like my son who I take alone there for daily exercise with gloves on, or parents passing with their kids.

"There have only been two occasions of groups gathering there in the last week and they were dealt with efficiently."

Jane Winson added: "I feel sorry for younger children in Rubery who rode their scooters here under the watchful eye of a parent.

"Another piece of normality snatched away due to thoughtless older lads."
