"During the current crisis it is vital that we all work together as a community to help one another through these difficult times.

"My wife and I live locally and with us both working, I know how difficult it is for people to get to the supermarket when the shop still has something left.

Midland Foods' usual customers include local authorities, schools, hotels and restaurants - all of whom will be ordering less, if any.

He added: "It's a bit of an issue after last night (the government announcement about schools closing).

"This is a community-led idea but we also have 50 staff to consider and we have to make sure they are looked after."
