FORMER Manchester United, Leeds United and England footballer Lee Sharpe will be waxing lyrical about his career at a 'homecoming event' in Redditch in April.

Sharpe, whose family live in Redditch, will be the special guest at a 'Legends' evening at South Redditch Sports and Social Club on Friday, April 3, from 7pm.

The former winger, now 48, made his name at Manchester United as part of Alex Ferguson's pioneering Red Devils side of the early 1990s.

Sharpe was part of the United team featuring Peter Schmeichel, Eric Cantona, Steve Bruce, Ryan Giggs, Paul Ince and others who ended United's 25-year wait for a top flight title win.

He won three Premier League titles with United, plus two FA Cups and a League Cup as well as the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1990-91.

Sharpe, who grew up in Halesowen, also won eight caps for his country and was named the Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year in 1991.

However, after leaving Old Trafford in 1996, his career would be blighted by knee injuries and he retired from the game in 2003.

The former Hagley Catholic High School student has since appeared in reality television shows such as Celebrity Love Island and Dancing On Ice.

Tickets for the event cost £20, including supper and a comedian's act, and can be purchased on 07908 757324.
