Young talent will be an important theme of the Longborough Festival Opera in the Cotswolds this summer, thanks to the launch of a new initiative.

This season will see a fresh attempt to engage Gloucestershire’s young people with opera, in the form of a brand new Youth Chorus.

The new Youth Chorus welcomes 7-18 year olds "with an interest in singing, dance or drama".

The young people receive professional coaching from members of the Longborough team, performance opportunities in the community, and the chance to take part in Longborough’s productions.

This year, Youth Chorus members will take part in Longborough’s production of Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, from July 30 to August 4.

Longborough Festival Opera is an intimate 500-seat theatre "set amidst the glorious rolling hills of the Cotswolds".

The 2020 Festival runs from June 4 to August 4 and includes Wagner's Die Walküre, Donizetti's The Elixir of Love, Monteverdi's The Return of Ulysses, and Janácek's The Cunning Little Vixen.

The festival is especially popular with lovers of the music of Wagner.
