ROADS around the Churchfields and Horsefair areas of Kidderminster will be closed from this week as works to create a new A-road get under way.

So far, Worcestershire County Council's Churchfields Urban Highway Improvement Scheme has focused on clearing the land on the former CMS site and utility diversion works around the new entrances to the link road off the Churchfields roundabout.

Now, part of Churchfields will be turned into an A-road and the Horsefair reconfigured in an effort to ease congestion and support the delivery of new homes planned in the area.

Works will include full reconstruction of the highway and footpaths and the installation of new drainage.

Utility companies will also make use of the closures to undertake works, during which time, diversions will be in place.

From Wednesday, February 12, Churchfields will be closed from the junction with the Horsefair, Broad Street and Radford Avenue.

Traffic wanting to access Churchfields will be diverted along Broad Street, turning left onto Clensmore Street.

The Horsefair link between Churchfields and Stourbridge Road will also be closed..

Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council's cabinet member for economy and infrastructure, said: "It’s great to see work pressing ahead on this scheme to improve transport links in the Churchfields area.

“This is an important scheme of highway improvements, ahead of the delivery of housing earmarked for the area.”
