A POPULAR restaurant in Malvern has re-opened under new management.

The Fig, in Church Street, was closed for a period before Carly Weyman, who also runs the Picnic Box in the town, decided to buy it at the end of last year.

She said: “I opened the Picnic Box back in June and saw in November that the Fig was for sale.

“We opened back in December and we are looking to tell people that we are here and open.

“We are running it quite traditionally with breakfast and lunch then with tapas and small plates in the evening.

“It is not the typical tapas, more different types of cuisine.”

Opening The Fig has been a completely new direction for the ownership, and Mrs Weyman said everything is freshly made, from scratch and at reasonable prices.

She added: “Other than the Picnic Box this is my first restaurant so it is a new direction for me as well. We opened fully on December 9 and barring a little bit of work we are now back open.”

The Fig has traditionally benefitted from visitors to Malvern Theatre coming in for a meal, as well as a few who perform there themselves, with Only Fools and Horses star John Challis known to have visited from time to time.

The Fig was closed briefly this week (January 14) for maintenance work but is back open again now from today.

A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said: “We’ve had a difficult couple of days and we are very sorry we had to close. It was extremely unexpected, but we are back up and running this evening and then all back to usual from tomorrow.”
