SAJID Javid is hoping to see plenty of love for Bromsgrove after announcing his fourth Pensioners' Fair will take place on Valentine's Day.

The event was originally scheduled for last November but had to be cancelled due to the hastily-called General Election, in which Mr Javid retained his seat as Bromsgrove MP.

The cancellation did not go down well with some residents, who turned up to locked doors, unaware that the event had been called off.

But the fair, which has attracted more than 500 pensioners in previous years, has now been rescheduled for Friday, February 14.

“Our last Pensioners’ Fair saw a record turnout, with more than 50 exhibition stalls, manned by a range of outstanding local organisations – from Age UK to the Artrix," said Mr Javid.

“I want to celebrate the contribution retirees make to our community and the fantastic work of the clubs, charities and businesses that support them.

“The event falling on Valentine’s Day has certainly not escaped my notice – and I have so far resisted the pleas of my team to make the Fair a speed dating event.

"I am happy to confirm that the likes of rose petals, champagne and certainly oysters will not be making an appearance!

"If Cupids Arrow does strike, I’m afraid it won’t be because of your local MP."

The popular event, which will run for two hours from 10am to 12noon at Parkside Hall on Market Street, has become a staple of Bromsgrove’s social calendar.

Its aim is to leave attendees with filled diaries, new hobbies and a better idea of the broad range of services, activities and events on offer right across the constituency.

This year, Mr Javid says he will be assembling the very best of Bromsgrove’s clubs, societies and charitable organisations to advertise their services.

The Fair currently has more than 40 exhibitors confirmed, including several Bromsgrove sports clubs, the Artrix and Bromsgrove Ramblers.

If you’re interested in becoming an exhibitor, sponsor, or would like more information, please do get in touch with Sajid via email on sajid.javid.mp@parliament.uk.

There will also be a series of live performances, including by the singer Helen Pearson, who will entertain audiences with a variety of vintage classics.

The event will be free for both attendees and exhibitors, and as ever will be strictly non-political.
