HELPFUL hands from Stourport joined forces when a popular DIY television show came to the area.

Stourport-based company Frontline Cleaning had the privilege of taking part in DIY SOS when presenter Nick Knowles and his team of builders and decorators converted the home of Johanna and William in Bromsgrove.

The episode, which aired on Wednesday, November 20, showed the story of Johanna’s 27-year-old sister Karis, who has Cerebral Palsy and is in need constant care.

She had been living with her mother, but with her own health deteriorating, Johanna wanted her sister to be able to live with her and her partner William.

The build involved putting up a two storey side extension on the house with a lift, an adapted bedroom and wetroom for Karis.

The Frontline team cleaned floors, bathrooms, the lift in a race against the clock.

Frontline Cleaning managing director, Kerryn Jones said: "It was an honour to give a few days to others who find themselves feeling hopeless and helpless because of their circumstances.

"They were facing this massive hurdle they would never have been able to afford to overcome, but the generosity of others changed everything for them."

Slimming world consultant Lisa Smith, who holds her groups at Stourport Sports Club, also lent a helping hand with a team of 12 members.

They supported tradespeople by fetching and carrying equipment, cleaning up and helped with the digging on the front garden.

Lisa said: "Seeing all of the people coming together from the nearby areas, giving up their time to help this family be able to live together and to give Karis the freedom to live her life independently at home was a truly wonderful experience."
