VOTES have been flooding in for the Worcester News Pub of the Year competition.

Another pub in the running for the prize is The Wheatsheaf.

Our Pub of the Year contest sees readers voting for their favourite establishment in the city, with the winning landlord receiving a trophy and being invited to parliament by Worcester MP Robin Walker.

Tony Gibbon, who will be known to many for his time running Drummonds as well as managing bands, is the landlord of The Wheatsheaf.

Mr Gibbon took over the pub last year, and says it has been going “from strength to strength” ever since.

“We have just completed our refurb, and customers have only given us positive feedback,” he said.

“We call the pub the city’s best kept secret, and the little pub with the big heart.

"We run it for the community - two of our regulars who come in every day and have done for 50 years say this is the best the pub that has ever been.”

Mr Gibbon added he was thrilled people would nominate the pub for the award.

Anyone can vote for their Pub of the Year, whether a member of staff or a loyal customer, but we only accept slips cut out from the newspaper as votes to ensure a fair competition. Post them to Pub of the Year, Worcester News, Hylton Road, WR2 5JX, by the end of Friday December 20.

The voting slip will be published each week, with nominated pubs profiled. The winner will be announced in the newspaper and on our website on Christmas Eve.
