Primary school children in Worcester are being given the chance to bring some festive joy to people across the city.

The Mayor of Worcester is inviting children aged between five and 11 to design his 2019 Christmas card, which will be sent out to around 500 schools, charities, organisations, clubs and businesses.

Primary schools across the city have been invited to get their pupils drawing and painting to come up with a seasonal picture that shows a Worcester landmark or symbol.

The Mayor, Councillor Allah Ditta, said: “This is an opportunity for local children to show off their creative talents as they begin to anticipate all the excitement which Christmas will bring.

“Don’t forget to include a Worcester landmark or symbol in your card design – Father Christmas landing on top of the Hive, penguins swimming in the River Severn – or whatever takes your fancy.”

The Mayor’s office has written to every primary school in the city asking them to take part in the competition. Each school has been asked to send in the best three Christmas card designs their pupils come up with.

The entries will be judged in late November by the Mayor, his chaplain Canon John Everest and Worcester City Council Managing Director David Blake.

As well as seeing their picture printed on the Mayor’s Christmas card, the winner will be invited to tea at the Mayor’s Parlour in the Guildhall and their school will receive a £50 gift voucher for art materials.
