WARNING: Pictures include graphic images of the swan's injuries

Mr Stewart said: "The dog was off a lead, we have had this happen before.

"We are not having a go at dogs, it's the owners who let them off a lead there.

"It is a common sense, if you let them off, do it when you have passed in a field.

"The swan has survived the night, the wound has been flushed out.
