A CAFE is donating a whole day’s takings to the family of a five-year-old boy who needs life saving treatment.

Caffe Bolero, in St Nicholas Street, Worcester, is donating today’s takings to Hand in Hand for Oscar, a fund to help Oscar Saxelby-Lee pay for specialist cancer treatment in Singapore.

His family have appealed for help to raise the £500,000 he needs to pay for CAR-T cell therapy to try and combat the aggressive leukaemia he has suffered from for nine months,

Owner of Caffe Bolero, Fatmir Cokaj said: “I have four kids myself and every time I look at my kids I am thinking about him (Oscar) and I put myself in his parents' position.

“I wondered if it was one of my kids, how I would feel and how I would feel if someone tried to help me.”

Mr Cokaj said: “I have a chance to help, so why not?”

Oscar’s parents have been calling on Worcester businesses to help with fundraising for their son’s treatment.

Mum Olivia Saxelby, from St John's, asked for support from the city's business community saying: “We have a just a few weeks to secure this. Anything anyone can do to help is invaluable to us.”

The appeal for the money has generated £270,000 in less than two weeks, mostly from the city community and the wider county.

But Oscar's family are in a race against time to raise the money while he is still strong enough to travel and undergo the treatment - which is currently not available on the NHS.

His family say doctors have told them he only has a window of three to five weeks to undergo the treatment.

The appeal for £500,000 for Oscar is now the fastest-growing campaign currently being hosted by charity fundraising site, Virgin Money Giving.

An outpouring of support for the schoolboy from Worcester has seen dozens of individuals, schools, sports teams, dance clubs and businesses pledge money and organise events in a bid to raise the mammoth sum needed for Oscar to have specialist treatment abroad.

Any businesses that wants to help Oscar reach his fund raising target can contact the fundraising team for more information or how to sponsor his treatment at info@handinhandforoscar.co.uk or visit gkcct.org/oscar.

The appeal is being supported by the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and any money not spent on Oscar's treatment will be used to help fund research into kinder treatments for children's cancers.
