A type 2 diabetic woman is completing the One Million Step Challenge for Diabetes UK after experiencing health complications from her condition.

The event started on 1 July and finishes on 30 September, it invites people to push themselves out of their comfort zone, by taking one million steps over three months and getting sponsored for every stride.

It will take Vicky Wheeldon, 50, at least 10,000 steps a day to reach her million.

Vicky, from Worcester who works in a doctor’s surgery, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when she was pregnant with her first child in 1998.

The mother-of-two said: “It’s a hard condition to cope with as a lot of the time you feel well and don’t have any symptoms, but nine years ago I had a heart attack from the complications of it. "

"I am still struggling with Type 2 diabetes, but I have learnt to enjoy life and live with it with the help of family and friends.

“I’m glad I took the plunge and entered the challenge to see if it makes a difference to my health and wellbeing while raising money and awareness of Diabetes UK."

" I feel so happy with my steps and the positive changes it has made to me.”

Type 2 diabetes is a common condition that causes the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood to become too high. It's caused by problems with a chemical in the body called insulin.
