SUNDAY saw the return of a popular village fete in Malvern.

Residents of all ages flocked to the village green in Malvern Wells for the annual Malvern Wells Village Fete.

The fete featured a steel band, classic cars, food and drink and games for all the family.

Tonya O’Donnell, one of the organisers, said: “On Sunday it felt as if the sunshine came out especially for us.

“It was a wonderful sunny, happy event in all respects, a proper bringing together of community of all ages with food, entertainment and fun.

“At the very last minute two local businesses stepped in to help with a very late cancellation on catering & face painting.

“Richard and his family from Smokey Dough pizza, which went down really well and Sarah from the Glitter Shack who provided lots of glitter for the day.

“This just really highlights that communities can come together to support and help one another.”

Local community police representatives, the church community, women’s institute, guide dogs and many more provided plenty for people to see and do.

Mrs O’Donnell added: “The Classic cars were fabulous and there were plenty of great prizes for the raffles were won.

“The local parish councillors and events committee members really joined together to create a wonderful event with a good few hundred people attending during the afternoon.”

Other groups involved in making the day a success include Bennetts Dairy who provided the ice-cream,the Friday Beer company who provided beer and cider and the people who brought the fairground carousel and ‘ring the bell’ strength game.

Also included on the day were a dog show and arena games.

The tug of war proved as popular as ever and there was also an egg and spoon race for youngsters.

The Malvern Wells Village Fete, set up by the parish council, has been running for more than a decade.

The Classic Car Show was organised by Howard Allen and has been running for around five years.

The Fete is run by the council’s events working group which includes both councillors and local residents and is chaired by Ian Burrage.

It is a non profit-making community event with no charge made for stalls.
