THE detective investigating the disappearance of a man last seen in Malvern says he is “keeping all options open” and hopes that a TV documentary featuring his story will lead to more information.

Detective inspector Dave Knight from West Mercia Police, renewed an appeal for information as ITV’s Long Lost Family series, which aired last night, featured the story of Matthew Bone, a man from Portsmouth who was last seen in Callow End in March 2018.

The documentary, which featured host Nicky Campbell speaking to DI Knight, was the last in the series, which tries to help families re-unite with their missing loved ones.

DI Knight said: “From our point of view, any media coverage is good and will raise the profile of the case.

“We have got several hypotheses we are working on and very much keeping all lines of enquiry open.

“He could well be out there somewhere and just not want to be contacted.

“It could also be that he has unfortunately died.

“We are hoping that it could lead to more information and hopefully getting closer to finding out what has happened to Matt.

“He could well be out there.

“Anyone with information or who remembers seeing Matt - we would urge them to get in touch with the Missing People charity so they can pass it on to us.”

Matthew, who was 26 when he disappeared, was living in Portsmouth with his family.

He had moved back in to live with them while studying for his PhD in environmental science as he was struggling with the workload.

In March this year, West Mercia Police appeal again to try and find Matthew, who disappeared from his family home in March.

He travelled more than 140 miles north to the village of Callow End but there is no other evidence to suggest what happened to him after he was spotted in the village.

At the time, Matt’s sister Katie told the Worcester News: “We are glad the appeal has been renewed, and we hope that the fresh appeal can jog the memories of the people of Worcester and Malvern who may have seen him.

“It is reassuring that the search is still ongoing as it has been really difficult for us as a family being so far away from where he went missing.”

Anyone who sees Matthew or knows where he is can call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 410S of March 11 or call the Missing People Charity on 116 000 in confidence.
