SCHOOL children performed one of William Shakespeare's greatest plays in the stunning ground of a country house.

Pupils from Michaelchurch Escley Primary School, in the west of the county, performed The Tempest in front of an audience of 300 people at Michaelchurch Court.

The school said its pupils put on an incredible show for the hundreds of parents, friends, family and culture loving members of the public who attended along.

One ticket buying member of the public said: "Without any exaggeration, this evening was absolutely astounding.

"It would have been so by any measure for a school play, but given the age of the performers and the size of your school it was stunning."

Deputy headteacher Gary Crocker said the primary school owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the hardworking members of the school community who made the performance a success. Their biggest thanks went out to Janet and John McPherson for opening up their home.
