PUB-GOERS will have to wait slightly longer for the return of a pub near Malvern after the building contractors in charge of the renovation went into financial difficulties.

The Plough and Harrow in Guarlford was due to re-open on August 21 after a lengthy closure, but the company which is due to be running the pub announced there will be a delay.

Brunning and Price, who will run the pub, announced in a statement: "Brunning and Price along with IB Construction have been making great progress at the Plough and Harrow, Guarlford, Malvern.

"Our plan had been to open our doors on Wednesday, August 21, but sadly there will now be a delay.

"It was announced this week that IB Construction have gone into receivership.

"This is something that saddens us greatly, as we have worked alongside them for many years now on many successful projects.

"We also recognise that this may have a knock-on effect for some local contractors that IB had engaged to work on our project and are therefore reassured that administrators have been appointed.

"We now find ourselves taking stock of our current situation and are working with our suppliers and contractors in order to continue with our plans.

"Regretfully, the opening date will have to be delayed however, we are not in a position to say by how long just at the moment but we expect it to be 3 to 4 weeks."

Last week, the Malvern Gazette reported on how the pub was nearing completion, with 50 jobs expected to be created.
