THE actions by a group of Brexit MPs in the European parliament this week have certainly caused some people to lose all sense of reality.

The back-turning stunt might well be described as rather juvenile, but judging by the response of our lead letter today, you would think the end of the world had come.

Remainers might be completely at odds with the Brexit squad about Britain’s place - or not - in Europe, but to hurl accusations of Nazism around is completely over the top.

There is no way that any serious person can believe that these few Euro-MPs are about to unleash armies of conquest across Europe or launch a campaign of genocide against vulnerable groups.

This useless invocation of the Nazi demon is positively harmful to political culture.

It serves to make Nazism seem part of the normal political spectrum, something it is not and never has been in Britain at any time.

And just using the term to condemn anything one doesn’t like is an insult to the memory of all those who suffered at the hands of a truly dreadful system.
