THE Hive is offering people the chance to dive into the history of their own home, after being inspired by a BBC Two show.

In the latest season of A House Through Time, presenter David Olusoga uncovered the hidden history of a Georgian terrace home in Newcastle.

The historian and professor was astounded to find the house had been called home by many influential people and the site of significant historical events as well as various scandals.

The Butts-located city library has teamed up with Explore the Past – an organisation dedicated to finding and preserving the history of Worcestershire – to offer residents the chance to delve into their home’s past.

Anyone interested can take advantage of the Hive’s archives of local history, an expert team to offer a helping hand, and a guide on ‘discovering the history of your own house’.

There are also monthly ‘First Steps in House History’ introduction workshops to get you started.

One Worcestershire resident found that their cottage was once part of the extensive Croome Park estate, owned by the Coventry family.

“A House Through Time is a fantastic programme,” said Paul Hudson, learning and outreach manager at Explore the Past.

“And although we can't guarantee you'll find as much as they did or that it will be as dramatic, there are plenty of people and stories to be uncovered here using similar sources to those David used.”
