DURING the last of her three years as mayor of Malvern, Cllr Cynthia Palmer raised £7,905 for Sight Concern Worcestershire.

This is a town council record for the amount collected in one year, and was raised through a variety of events including a sponsored walk across the hills, the mayor’s bonanza and collections at Bands in the Park concerts.

Cllr Palmer said: “I am delighted with the amount we have raised for Sight Concern Worcestershire. I would like to say a huge thank you to the residents of Malvern, whose incredible generosity has made this happen.

"Of course, I couldn’t have done this without the continued support from the amazing staff and volunteers at Sight Concern and all the staff at Malvern Town Council."

Penny Weir, fundraising officer for Sight Concern Worcestershire, said: “It has been a great pleasure working with the mayor and the council staff over the last 12 months and we’re over the moon at the amount raised.

"As a registered charity, we rely almost entirely on the support of the general public and donations such as this. There are an estimated 7,520 people in Worcestershire with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives and this generous gift will enable us to help more people in Malvern and across the county."
