A MAJOR skills event is aiming to support people of all ages with their future career goals and ambitions.

The Marches Growth Hub are calling on everyone from students to entrepreneurs, ex-forces personnel and retired worker to attend the first ever Herefordshire Skills Show.

Lyndsay Francis, Economic Development Officer for the Marches Growth Hub, Herefordshire, said: “The Skills Show's organisers are aiming for this event to be much more than just a careers fair.

“There is a real emphasis on skills and how we can best match the experience, knowledge and creativity of the local workforce to the needs of businesses.

“There is a huge pool of expertise out there among people who can sometimes be hard to reach by employers – parents returning to work, ex-forces, entrepreneurs and even those who have retired but still want to work and utilise their skills.

“The Skills Show is an opportunity for all of these people to come along and meet local businesses, seek advice, explore training options and job vacancies.

“It’s also a great chance for business owners who are looking to recruit staff to make sure they are marketing jobs in a way that reaches these people and matches their skills.”

Organised by Marches Skills Provider Network, Herefordshire Council, the University of Wolverhampton, Herefordshire Training Providers and the Department for Work and Pensions, the event will take place on July 3 at Hereford Racecourse.

Doors will be open from 12pm to 7.30pm and those attending will be able to access advice and guidance on preparing for jobs, including CV writing, training and career development.

There will also be a range of interactive stands for visitors to engage with and an opportunity to speak to those currently employed by local businesses.
