RESIDENTS have stepped up their campaign for traffic calming measures in their road after the latest serious crash after which a woman was taken to hospital.
The crash happened in Bridge Street, Pershore, at around 11pm on Friday night, when a BMW crashed into five others.
An ambulance was called to the scene, with a boy and woman assessed for minor injuries, and the woman later taken to hospital.
Paula Evans, who lives in the road and whose car was damaged in the latest incident, said residents had had enough, and were calling for the 20mph speed limit to be properly enforced.
“We have issues all the time here,” Mrs Evans said.
“The road opens up but they don’t realise it is 20mph. We have seen people going 50 to 60mph, it happens all the time.
“Even if they don’t realise it’s 20mph limit, they should see from the houses its residential so they should not be going above 30mph.
“This is the third serious crash in the last six months. It is luck no one has been seriously injured, but we are running out of luck. There are elderly neighbours, my son walking in this road.
“We are genuinely terrified something will happen. It’s like we are waiting for someone to be killed.”
Last November a van smashed into a house in Bridge Street, near the Star Inn, that led Councillor Val Wood to call for action.
After that incident Cllr Wood said: "This accident illustrates the problems with speeding in Bridge Street.
"Both police and highways say the average speed is no problem and the 20mph limit cannot or will not be enforced. Let’s have a rethink before someone gets hurt.”
On last Friday's incident a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called by police to reports of a multi vehicle road traffic collision.
"A paramedic also stopped at the scene to offer assistance. They assessed two patients, a boy and a female who was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.”
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We’re currently liaising with our colleagues at West Mercia Police regarding last week’s incident.
"We are aware of residents’ concerns regarding speed along this stretch of road and we will look into this further.”
West Mercia Police was unavailable for comment.
