YOUNG scientists from a secondary school in Evesham have been awarded highly commended in a national competition final, with their innovative design solution for people with asthma.
Sophie Garrett, Esme Lendon, Jemima Shaw and Lorna Simpson from Bredon Hill Academy designed a wearable device that includes a watch, pedometer, heart rate monitor and inhaler, and have been praised by judges from the BP Ultimate STEM challenge 2019 at an event held at the Science Museum in London.
STEM education integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics and helps students gain a better understanding of how important these subjects are for industry and for their futures.
Keith Bailey, the school's science teacher, said: “Both the team and the school have worked really hard, so winning today is a fantastic reward for everybody’s effort.
"All the students here deserve a lot of credit for their enthusiasm, innovation and teamwork.
"Giving students the chance to present their ideas, and bring them face-to-face with leading engineers and scientists as positive role models, has given them a truly memorable experience.”
