YOUNG farmers who turned their hands to acting were rewarded when they won a national performing arts competition.

Eardisley Young Farmers Club (YFC) took the stage in Leamington Spa with their performance called 'Down the Garden Path', and came out on top in the competition.

The National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs who organise the event hold area and regional finals, before five teams progress to the national final.

Eardisley YFC were undefeated throughout, with marks are awarded for variety and balance, originality, entertainment value, effectiveness of set, use of stage by performers and overall effect.

The club were against stiff competition in the final, but the National Operatic and Dramatic Association were impressed with their puppetry.

West Midlands NODA Regional Councillor Ian Cox said: "Any performance that begins with Vivaldi's Spring is to be admired and we saw that in Eardisley with their particular performance.

"The puppetry in that show was of the absolute top quality and it impressed us enormously."

It's not the first time Eardisley have reached the national final, having reached the same stage on four other occasions. The club's chairman said everyone involved enjoyed taking part.

Cobi Ferguson and Zoe Whittall said: "No one can quite believe it, we are still on cloud nine. We are such an inclusive and fun club, everyone who wanted to be in the play was in it, everyone who wanted a part had a part and we have all had a fantastic time doing it.

"Everyone has been brilliant and so enthusiastic to get involved and that's what our club is all about and we have loved every second of it."

The national winner will be taking one final trip 'Down the Garden Path' on the June 7 in Eardisley, where they will be doing a special outdoor performance. For more information contact Zoe Whittall on 07769207071.
