A CHURCH in Hay-on-Wye is appealing for people to come forward after they suspect a part of a wall outside was stolen.

St. Mary's Church in the border town said between 4pm on Monday, May 13 and 10am the following day seven 7 large coping stones were taken from the top of a wall.

The flat stones are used to top a wall. The ones thought to be stolen are around three feet long and church warden Stuart Pritchard said it's going to cost a lot to fix.

He said: "The annoying thing is it'll cost us a lot to get fixed.

"We'll need to work on the wall, the old mortar will be exposed so will need to be done."

St. Mary's Church has reported the incident to the police.
