CRICKET is heading to the streets of Worcester with the annual Worcestershire Street Sixes tournament set to return.

The competition, run by Worcestershire Cricket, invites teams from local businesses to get involved and enter the tournament to play street cricket in Worcester.

Tom Raymond-Hill, cricket development director for Worcestershire Cricket, said there has never been a better year to promote cricket, telling the Worcester News: "With a world cup and an ashes series in England this year, it is a great time to be promoting the game and trying to get more people involved.

"When we started Street Sixes cricket, we wanted to really raise the profile of the game and getting the corporate community involved to raise money for our other community projects.

"With the money we make from it we can provide equipment and training to people and communities that otherwise would never experience cricket.

"We also run our Wicketz programme helping to keep kids out of trouble and our women's softball cricket tournaments which are designed to get more women and girls involved in the game."

Street Sixes will be held on July 1 in Angel Place and the tournament organisers are looking for 18 teams of between six and ten people to take part.

The tournament is sponsored by the Worcestershire Ambassadors, and matches will last 30 minutes with all equipment provided.

Teams get 10 free t-shirts, free match day premium guest vouchers for all entrants’, free entry to the after party at Blackfinch New Road and tickets to final event at New Road
